“Waste Reduced” Awareness Programme Conducted by SPCB at SPU

An awareness programme was conducted by officials of the State Pollution Control Board-Sikkim for the students and staff of Sikkim Professional University on 24.05.2023 on the theme “Waste Reduced” under Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) , launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at its campus seminar hall. The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Vice Chancellor, SPU Professor J.A. Arul Chelakumar wherein he plauded Sikkim for being an environmentally aware State.  He went on to highlight the ongoing challenges and issues plaguing the environment and how everyone should take responsibility for the protection of the environment.

The programme was carried forward by the keynote speaker from SPCB-Sikkim , Ms. Pratiksha Sharma who briefly introduced Mission LiFE and apprised the participants about the  objectives, themes and action plans of Mission LiFE. She highlighted the theme “Waste Reduced” and urged the participants to take individual as well as collective responsibility to minimize waste in their daily lifestyle. She also persuaded the participants to inculcate various environment friendly actions to reduce waste. The Registrar, Sikkim Professional University, Professor Ramesh Kumar Rawat, Principals, faculty members and student were present on this occasion. Lastly, a pledge was taken by all the participants for the protection of the environment.  The programme ended with a  Q&A session.
