Celebration of Independence Day in Budang Campus of Sikkim Professional University, SPU

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated in Sikkim Professional University, Budang

Campus with enthusiasm and spirit of patriotism. Programme began by prayer, flag hoisting

and rendition of National Anthem. Thereafter, cultural programme comprising singing and

dance on patriotic songs, were performed by the students of GNM, and BSc Nursing.

Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jaswant Sokhi, addressed the staff and students of the University.

Historical background of Independence Day was highlighted. Thereafter, the Theme of 78th

Independence Day, i.e., Viksit Bharat was touched upon, whereby economic growth, social

progress and sustainable development is envisaged. Contributions made by freedom fighters

from all walks of life was highlighted. Further, it was stated that freedom was bestowed on us

by supreme sacrifice and by giving best parts of their lives by innumerable sung and unsung

freedom fighters. It was emphasized that, now that we have freedom, let us value it. The 78th

Independence Day has special connotation for Nursing profession. The instance of recognition

of two distinguished Nurses of Sikkim, Ms Glorymit Lepcha & Ms Tara Subba, who were

invited to participate in the celebrations at Red Fort, New Delhi was cited as it is relevant to

the Nursing programmes being offered by Sikkim Professional University. On this motivational

note the address was concluded by calling for commitment for selfless service for humanity

and upholding freedom for all by all the members of SPU!

Principal, Sikkim Professional Institute of Nursing, Budang Campus, Ms Nisha Soren

congratulated all the participants in the celebration of Independence Day. Ms Nisha Soren

emphasized on the importance of Independence that has come after great sacrifices by the

freedom fighters in non-violent and martial ways. Calling upon all the students and staff

present on this occasion to get inspired by the struggles made by freedom fighters, the journey

of preserving freedom as a core value for all needs to be pursued.

The celebrations ended by expressing grateful thanks by all the participants to freedom

fighters, historians, academics and governments for generating post freedom/Independence

awareness to present generation.
