7th Convocation Ceremony of SPU held at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok

          – 129 students of different disciplines received their degrees and 8 Gold medals, 7 silver medals, 5 bronze medals were awarded in various disciplines

GANGTOK, 23 December 2023:129 students of Sikkim Professional University (SPU) received their degrees, in various graduate, post graduate academic programs and Diploma during the 7thConvocation of the University held at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok on 23rd December 2023.

129 Students from all constituent colleges of SPU namely Sikkim Professional College of Allied Health Sciences (SPCAHS);  Sikkim Professional College of Pharmacy (SPCOP); Sikkim Professional College of Nursing (SPCON), Sikkim Professional College of Arts and Science (SPCAS) were given degree. The rank holders amongst the students of various courses were awarded with 8 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.

Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, presided over the function as the Chief Guest. Ms. Sumita Pradhan, Secretary, Education Department and Senior Vice President and Member of BOM, Dr. Vikas Chadha was a Guest of Honour. Vice Chancellor, Prof. H. S. Yadav, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jaswant Sokhi, Registrar, Prof. Ramesh Kumar Rawat welcomed all the guests with khada, bouquet and momento on this occasion.

In the convocation address, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya greeted the Medal and Degree awardees and blessed the graduating students for bright future and encouraged them to contribute towards nation building. Hon’ble Governor emphasised to implement new education policy , NEP -2020 to result desired outcomes to serve the Society. He appreciated the positive changes induced by   curricular and co curricular activities of Sikkim Professional University in the younger generation of the State and the country, which is in need of skilled man power in the area of Nursing, Pharmacy, physiotherapy and Allied Health Sciences, which are the preferred domain at Sikkim Professional University, Tadong, Gangtok besides Arts and Basic Sciences. Hon’ble Governor encouraged graduating students to get prepared to receive challenges smoothly and overcome it by virtue of  quality education imparting adequate experience and exposure during their internship.

In the convocation ceremony, His Excellency Governor Shri Laxman Prasad Acharya congratulated the students and called upon them to continue their best performance in the future also. He said that success is achieved only through hard work. He said that the convocation ceremony is a celebration and there should be enthusiasm in this celebration. Enthusiasm is life and weakness is death.

We should be proud of all our traditions which keep us full of enthusiasm. He laid emphasis on culture-filled education and discipline. He said that getting a degree is not the only goal, the goal is also to make a developed India.

He emphasized on new education policy, skill development based education and employment oriented education. He said that courage is beautiful with modesty. He said that from knowledge comes humility.

During the Programme, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sikkim Professional University, Prof. H. S. Yadav  welcomed the Chief Guest and all dignitaries , notably the Secretary Education, Govt. of Sikkim, Ms    Pradhan, whose contribution in the development of Sikkim, particularly in Educational infra structure has been impressive and outcomes are result oriented. Prof. Yadav recalled the effects of quality education if any youth is exploring bright future either for livelihood or for building the nation. It was expressed by the SPU Vice Chancellor that the performance of SPU in preparing man power in the area of Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Lab Technology, physiotherapy, Arts and Basic Sciences has been outstanding and our students have earned good reputation in their work place.The VC appreciated the social work by students and Faculty members in the rural areas and NSS activities have been beyond imagination and a great help to the Society. The role of Faculty, officers and staff has been quite encouraging and the SPU has ambitious plan to see academic outcomes in desired level. The role of SPU in the development of Sikkim has been vital and large number of our students are working in the Sikkim as well as other parts of the country and few have chosen developed country liKE USA. Based on the teacher student ratio, India Today had ranked first to SPU Gangtok. The Vice Chancellor indicated that many ambitious plans are on the way to impart quality education at SPU to contribute significantly in overcoming the challenges being faced by younger generation.
